Planning 8: Tue. May 31, 2011

Last day of May!! Today, we did our ICBC unit around safety, driving, etc. After watching some cheesy videos produced by ICBC, we completed a worksheet as a class. As it was last block, it was difficult to keep focused, but we managed to get through…Megan Bissky, our Violence Protection worker, will be in next class for three classes. Drug and alcohol projects are due this Friday!! ๐Ÿ™‚

Grad News: Friday May 27, 2011

Only 8 days until commencement! Counsellors, Admin, and secretaries have been busy this past week finalizing the details for the graduation weekend of June 4-5, 2011…things are quickly falling into place, and we are all hoping that the weather will cooperate ๐Ÿ™‚

Planning 8: May 27, 2011

Today is our second class devoted to our Drug and Alcohol project. The students are to either make a poster, write a research paper, or write a script and film it on one of the following topics: Anabolic steroids, marijuana, ecstasy, video games, gambling, antidepressants or alcohol. This project is due on June 3rd, 2011.

Grad News: Friday March 13, 2011

Grads may now look at the portfolio interview schedule, which has been posted in both the Student Services and main office windows. Community portfolios will occur on Monday May 16th, 2011. As well, all students wishing to take provincial exams in their grade 12 courses have now been registered on the provincial website. Be sure to check the exam schedule, posted in the office an on the school website. Three weeks until Grad weekend!

Planning 8: Friday May 13th, 2011

This morning in PLanning 8, we watched a documentary on how marijuana and schizophrenia are related in certain people, andย the differences between marijuana in the past and how it is grown, cultivated and sold in the present. The video is available at:

In the final 8 minutes of class, we took a walk around the school to partake in the gorgeous (and rare this spring!) sunshine! Have a great weekend, grade 8s!

Grad News-May 9, 2011

Today, at our staff meeting, the William H. Scott award will be decided. This award will be presented at Grad on June 6th, 2011. The valedictorians for this year’s Graduation ceremonies will also be voted on by staff.

Planning 8-May 9th, 2011

Today, our drug and alcohol counsellor, Stacy Scott from Hope and Area Transition Society, was in our class to do a presentation on alcohol. The class included discussions, a powerpoint, and some in-class learning activities around this subject.

Portfolios-Sept. 29, 2011

My portfolio interviews are now complete! Whew! Just a reminder to those Grads that completed their interviews with me that they can pick up their portfolio binders on Wednesday (I had mentioned Tuesday to several Grads, but I am in Abbotsford on Tuesday attending a UFV counsellor information session). Another reminder to Grads that the community portion of the portfolio interviews will take place on May 16th…

Planning 8-April 29, 2011

An exciting Planning 8 class today! Mrs. Kim Roberts, the public health nurse, was in to do a presentation on sexual decision-making and healthy lifestyle choices. The presentation also covered topics such as STDs / STIs, and birth control. The students asked some great questions! Good job! Thank you, Mrs. Roberts! Stacey, our drug and alcohol counsellor, will be in on Tuesday and Thursday of this coming week.

Grad News-April 27, 2011

A quick update on Grad news: Portfolio interviews are well under way. Ms. Neil, Mrs. Polishak and I have been very impressed with the quality of the portfolio binders thus far…and despite some jitters in some cases, the interviews have also went well ๐Ÿ˜‰ A reminder that the community interviews will be conducted on May 16th, and will occur throughout the day. Another reminder for those students who did their portfolio interview with me: you may pick up your binders each Friday until the 16th. Five and a half weeks until Grad!!
